Before you and I became Christians, we were in bondage to all kinds of gods. We were slaves to any number of things. But, at the bottom of it all, we were enslaved to ourselves. Paul is speaking in this chapter of the prior enslavement of the Jews to “religion” before coming to Christ. They were enslaved to rule-keeping and performance. Don’t be devoted to a denomination, thinking that members of that group are the only ones saved.  Don’t focus on the weaker things. Focus on Jesus. Don’t be enslaved to other things.
